There are a number of rural shelters that have a number of Labs and Lab mixes available. The percentage of dogs put to sleep at rural shelters seems to be higher than shelters in the bay area proper. We have been able to help these shelters in two important ways.

First, some of the bay area shelters, notably the Peninsula Humane Society, monitor our website and then they travel to the rural shelters, pick up the dogs and then bring them back to the bay area and make them ready for adoption.

Second, I receive emails from that many people travel 3-5 hours to these rural shelters to adopt dogs they see on our website. When the shelters see these dogs being adopted, many tend to keep the dogs at their shelters for longer periods of time before they are put to sleep.

Please watch our website for the daily updates. Thanks, Golden Gate Lab Rescue
